Fruit Person by Fien Rijks

Fruit Person is a collection of illustrated work from the past year. After having a break for the past year I have been able to explore what I want to create and who I am as an illustrator, which resulted in the works exhibited here. I have always been inspired by food, packaging and supermarkets, which is why these elements play a big role in my paintings. I always seem to come back to these elements, with the main being fruit. I also like to paint things associated with fruit and food such as plates and mugs, forks and knives. With these paintings I try to explore the relationship between eating, food, and the community that surrounds it. Sharing a meal with loved ones can be such a special experience, and serving other people food is a way of showing care for others without needing words. I want to show that food is more than just something we consume: we can have an emotional bond with it.

On January 13th we’re organizing a festive opening of the exhibition with a presentation, drinks and snacks. You’re welcome from 20:00 and the official opening will be at 20:30, after which there will be enough time to look at the art, talk and spend time together (which is extra special after these lockdown years). We can’t wait to see you all there and to enjoy this evening with everyone :)
