Eza Doortmont (1993) calls herself a visual storyteller. She works as a documentary filmmaker and (analogue) photographer. Her work is influenced by her background in journalism and visual anthropology. Where They Bake (Waar gebakken wordt) is a series of photos that exemplify the core of Eza's work; an eye for detail and human contact. Her stories are often about small communties and about that which is still there, but that which will certainly be transient. In Where They Bake, Eza recorded the bakers of KEEK, but she also explored how the knowledge of baking is in the hands/body of the bakers (embodied knowledge) and how you can visually capture that sensory experience. The photos were shot with a 50mm/f1.4 lens on 35mm Ilford HP5 plus and Kentmere 400 on Eza's Minolta SRT303.
On May 12th we're organizing a festive opening of the exhibition with a presentation, drinks and snacks. You're welcome from 20:00 and the official opening will be at 20:30, after which there will be enough time to look at the art, talk and spend time together.
